MAIN FIELDS OF RESEARCH

- International organisation
- Environmental affairs
- Latin America

After completing his undergraduate studies at Padua, Italy, his home town, and UC Berkeley, Jon Marco moved to Cambridge and to the Sorbonne to pursue his postgraduate studies. Receiving the first prize at an essay contest on Brazilian society and culture focused his sharp interest in foreign affairs on South American politics.

He joined EURAC in 2006 where he extended his research interests to environmental diplomacy, consulting for the Italian Ministry of the Environment and for the United Nations Environment Programme. His current research interests range from regional environmental agreements such as the Alpine Convention or the Carpathian Convention to trans-Andean relations. Based in Paris, he is affiliated to the Centre de Recherches Politiques de la Sorbonne, and pursues a concurrent doctoral degree.

In 2009-2010, Jon Marco was awarded a Giorgio Ruffolo Doctoral Fellowship in Sustainability Science at Harvard University, Center for International Development. His host faculty is Professor Calestous Juma, former Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Professor of the Practice of International Development, Kennedy School of Government.

Since his youth, he has been travelling extensively in Europe and the Americas, falling in love with Brazil, and nourishing a passion for cinema, sports and cuisine. Jon Marco is bilingual, English and Italian, and is fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Jon Marco recently edited the book A Collection on the Carpathian Convention (2008) and published La Crisis del Canal de Beagle (Estudios Internacionales, 2009).
