Steve Kass is a junior researcher at the Institute for Applied Remote Sensing. He graduated 2007 at the Institute for Geography of the Innsbruck University (Austria). His diploma thesis focused on object-oriented classification methodology with IKONOS data in urban areas. The scope of the thesis was to extract building vulnerability against tsunami impact for the city Padang (Indonesia). The obtained results were used in the GITEWS-Project (German Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System).

His main interest during studies were on GIS and natural hazards. He gained experience in remote sensing as an interim student at Geoville GmbH. in Innsbruck (Austria) and the DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen (Germany).

Steve Kass works for EURAC since February 2008. He is involved in the REAKART project for EO Data processing and GI operation in order to implement a semi-automatic classification procedure. His main interest focuses on landcover classifications and the potential of remote sensing for risk assessment.
