The Institute of Genetic Medicine is searching for a
bioinformatician
The position is open rank, with both senior and junior level candidates encouraged to apply. Hiring more than one candidate also may be possible. The Institute of Genetic Medicine is concerned with the systematic use of modern scientific methods in the field of genetics and epidemiology. The results of its research form an important basis for increased early recognition, prevention and treatment of common diseases. Common activities within the Institute include: Data mining of epidemiological data (implementation of algorithms, visual methods, pedigree splitting), Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) (workflow integration, data manipulation, scripting, elaboration and integration of security policies), Genetic Data Management (implementation of survey or statistical analysis tools, web interfaces) and in silico analysis (candidate gene analysis, GWA).
Requirements:
Strong familiarity with Java and/or Perl and/or PHP, HTML.
Very good confidence with statistical methods.
Good knowledge with Windows/Linux administration.
Very good practical knowledge of databases and SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL).
Strong familiarity with state of the art bioinformatic methods and online databases.
Knowledge of spoken German ideal and Italian language helpful but not essential.
