Scientist in public health genomics

The Institute of Genetic Medicine at the European Academy Bolzano is searching for a

Senior Scientist in Public Health Genetics.

The position is open rank, with both senior and junior level candidates encouraged to apply. Hiring more than one candidate also may be possible.

As part of an expansion in activities the Institute of Genetic Medicine is looking to develop an active public health genetics program with an emphasis on the ethical, legal, and social issues associated with the application of genomics to public health. The successful applicant for this position will have experience in integrating genomic discoveries into public health practice and in addressing critical issues in genetic research and more specifically to the implications of genetic research into the local community. The person doing this research needs to fit a certain profile, ideally German speaker, with a sociological background and good understanding of epidemiology and genetics and the development of questionnaires and other interactive ways of both obtaining, interpreting and sharing relevant data with the community. Eventually the activities of the program would include ways to increase the public's knowledge of genomics, how genetic variation associates with disease and ways in which this might be integrated into public health programs. Additionally the scope of the work may be broadened to provide technical assistance to state, regional, and local public health entities in the integration of genomics into public health practice and to provide assistance in training members of the current and future healthcare workforce in genomics and it's relevance to both individual and community based preventative healthcare initiatives.

Individuals with a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. are eligible to apply.

Excellent development prospects. EURAC is an equal opportunities employer. Native German-speaker preferred, very good knowledge of English is required, Italian language is helpful but not essential.
