Expert in GIS and statistics

 

Background
The Institute for Applied Remote Sensing develops remote sensing applications for the Alps and other mountainous areas, addressing current environmental problems in the context of global change.
In a series of upcoming projects dealing with the potential impacts of climate change, adaptation and mitigation, GIS based analysis and models will play an integral role.


Tasks

  • Establish and maintain GIS databases for at least two ongoing research projects in the field of natural hazard monitoring and management.
  • Application of advanced statistical methods for multivariate analysis of spatial data.
  • Collect and classify relevant data for hazard and risk mapping.
  • Apply and improve existing GIS based models in the field of natural hazards (e.g. landslides, rockfalls).
  • Apply and improve existing GIS based models on solar radiation.
  • Support assimilation of remote sensing based data with GIS models.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Master, diploma or comparable degree in a geo-scientific or other relevant field
  • One year of work experience.
    Profound experience in GIS techniques and relevant software (ArcGis)
  • Programming skills in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, C++, …)
  • Profound knowledge and experience in statistics (multivariate analysis)
  • Knowledge in the field of natural hazard processes
  • Very good English skills
  • Team skills and flexibility

Desirable

  • Knowledge / experience in remote sensing techniques and software packages (e.g. ENVI, Erdas, PCI)
  • Knowledge / experience in other relevant GIS software (e.g. GRASS)
  • Knowledge / experience in statistical software (e.g. R, SPSS)
  • Knowledge / experience in geostatistics
  • knowledge in ecological modelling
  • good German and / or Italian skills
