Abstract

The current appearance of a landscape is not only the outcome of its site conditions, but rather reflects the historic grown circumstances under which it has been shaped.

This project aims at relating different agrarian-economic, social-economic and natural factors with the present status of landscapes. By means of landscape metrics the fundamental changes in 8 alpine test regions are identified and specified. The subsequent analyses of the consequences of these landscape variations focus especially on their effects on important ecosystem services.
