Abstract
Today, biodiversity is one of the hot topics in science worldwide. One of the central tasks of this discipline is to investigate and to assess the consequences of biodiversity changes in the context of regional and global change. In the past, several projects at the Institute of Alpine Environment addressed these topics (e.g. ECOMONT, INTEGRALP, SUSTALP, landscape development, Hydropass and sustainability indicators). Data and results from these projects provide a unique opportunity for further studies on biodiversity. In future the main task of the project will be to develop and adjust biodiversity indicators to the functional and structural peculiarities of the alpine space. Herby, we will firstly focus on vascular plants, lichen and ecosystems. Further tasks are the analyses of the relationship between land use and biodiversity as well as the study of the impacts of biodiversity changes on ecosystem services.
