Workshop 'Applied Remote Sensing in Mountain Regions'
1st- 2nd February 2007
EURAC, Bolzano, Italy
Objective: Identifying the status quo and future potential of remote sensing applications in mountain regions.
Target groups: researchers, companies and users from the public and private sector.
Venue: European Academy (EURAC), Bolzano, Italy.
Mountain regions are highly dynamic as well as sensitive regions. Human land use, natural hazards and current trends like climate change, put environment and society in mountain regions under pressure. Monitoring such phenomenon on various scales in time and space has therefore become an urgent task. New regulations like the EU Water Framework Directive or the latest EU Air Quality directive further reinforce the demand for such monitoring activities.
Latest remote sensing techniques such as high-res satellite images, radar or LIDAR can contribute essentially to those monitoring activities. While some techniques (like land-use mapping) have become a standard application over the last decade, a lot of potential applications are still "work in progress" or have yet to be developed.
The workshop "Applied Remote Sensing in Mountain Regions" aims to identify the status quo and future potential of such remote sensing applications in mountain regions by bringing together scientists, companies and users. By this means we hope to offer a platform for sharing knowledge and creating new opportunities for applied remote sensing in mountain regions.
The workshop was organised by the EURAC Institute for Applied Remote Sensing.
