The IMA Coordination Unit has advised and supported the Ministry of the Environment and Territory, in filling in a questionnaire, designed by the Compliance Committee of the Alpine Convention about the implementation of the Convention itself.

The questionnaire takes into account the thematic areas corresponding to the general obligations that are envisaged for the Member States by the Alpine Convention (article 2, paragraph 2):
• Mountain farming
• Mountain forests
• Soil conservation
• Regional planning
• Protection of nature and landscape
• Energy
• Transport
• Population and culture
• Tourism
• Air quality
• Waste management
• Water management

The rules and regulations and the implementation provisions adopted by Italy, in compliance with the Convention obligations, have been taken into account for each thematic area.

The regional and local authorities that play a fundamental role in the implementation of the Convention obligations have been involved in the collection of the necessary information. Therefore, in addition to the rules and regulations and the implementation provisions taken at a national level (development plans, programmes, activities), the measures adopted by the alpine arc regions have also been taken into account. Several examples of best practices in the area of mountain environmental protection, in general, and of alpine environmental protection, in particular, have been developed by Italy over the past few years.
