The IMA Coordination Unit has supported the Ministry of the Environment and Territory to retrieve the necessary information to fill in the questionnaire concerning the implementation of the Alpine Convention by Italy.

The work has been done at the basis of a publication made by the Unit, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and the Department of Regional Affairs of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which encompasses and illustrates all the laws, provisions and politicise for the implementation of the Alpine Convention in Italy.

The publication includes a detailed list of specific rules and regulations applying at national and regional level, in addition to a set of practical examples of the actions that have so far been undertaken by Italy to abide by the Convention obligations, and to a thorough overview of the initiatives that have been launched especially by the local authorities, which play a leading role in implementing the Alpine Convention principles. The appendix to the text is especially interesting because it illustrates the contributions provided by Italy in terms of the mountain policies that have been implemented and the financial investments that have been made over the past few years for sustainable development and mountain protection purposes.
