Peter P. Pramstaller, MD Head of Institute

Peter P. Pramstaller is the founding director of the EURAC-Institute of Genetic Medicine and provides overall leadership in both scientific and administrative matters. Peter received his MD at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck (A) in 1990. He completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Verona in 1994. He was also trained in movement disorders at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square (London, UK). During this 2-year-fellowship with Professor C. David Marsden he developed an interest in the genetics of movement disorders. In 2003 Peter became part of the medical faculty at the University of Luebeck in Germany (Habilitation) where he lectures. He leads the Parkinson's Disease Clinic at the Central Hospital of Bolzano, where as an experienced scientist and movement disorder specialist he tries to give the best cure for patients and is ensuring that the Hospital of Bolzano is on the cutting edge of research and new therapies. |
Andrew A. Hicks, MA PhD Deputy Scientific Director
Andrew Hicks supports Peter in the implementation of science strategy and oversees all research activities and technological development at the Institute of Genetic Medicine. He organizes people and resources toward effective and efficient pursuit of predetermined objectives in addition to carrying out his own research with a special interest in the molecular and genetic mechanisms of neurological function and disorders. Andrew graduated from the University of Oxford in 1985 (Biochemistry, Chemical Pharmacology, Molecular Genetics) and completed his PhD in Molecular Neurobiology in 1989 at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Following a 2 year position as Senior Research Associate for Neurosciences at Peterhouse, Cambridge, he moved to a post of Project Director at a CNRS laboratory in Paris. In 1998 he took a position as Project Leader at deCODE genetics Inc. where he directed the movement disorder projects alongside his research into other neurological disorders. He joined the Institute in his current role in August 2007. |
