The university systems in Italy and Austria are currently undergoing major reforms, in line with other Europe-wide reforms. Both states aim at ensuring full comparability in the denominations of university curricula and degrees, in order to enhance mutual comprehension among the respective universities. The expected close cooperation ensuing requires first and foremost both parties to communicate clearly, so that the principles and norms underlying the two university systems can be well understood.
This is the aim that the Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism pursues with its Dizionario terminologico dell'istruzione superiore Italia-Austria - Terminologisches Wörterbuch zum Hochschulwesen Italien-Österreich. Five years after the first edition a new terminological dictionary systematically compares Italian and Austrian university law and records all changes and developments which have occurred since. The purpose of this reference tool is to ensure uniformity and coherence in language use, so that communication among all involved parties becomes more simple and quick, especially when mutual recognition of foreign degrees is needed.
