What is BISTRO?
Home  |  Research departments  |  Applied Linguistics  |  Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism  |  Projects  |  What is bistro?

With the development of bistro, Bolzano's information system for legal terminology, automatic methods for data and language management became fundamental components of the terminology work at the European Academy of Bolzano.

What is bistro?
bistro is an interface to the comprehensive terminological database developed in the last few years by the institute's linguists and law experts. It is dynamically-produced interface that can be used within conventional web browsers and enables the user to access legal terminology in German, Italian and Ladin as well as to establish connections among terms in the different languages. bistro thus offers the terminologist the possibility of inserting new terms and sources, thereby both extending and maintaining the database.
As an interface to the terminological database, bistro is available to the public as a tool for flexible and efficient access to data, and supports the daily work of the terminologist. Furthermore, bistro integrates computer-linguistic methods like automatic term extraction and term recognition, and will eventually be supported and expanded by applications like automatic text classification and integration of user inputs.
