DETAILS ON CORPUS AND TEMBANK
Home  |  Research departments  |  Applied Linguistics  |  Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism  |  Projects  |  LexALP

One of the principles underlying the project LexALP is guaranteeing free access to all information and resources developed within the project. This applies both to the multilingual terminology entries as well the specialised corpus of legal texts which is available to the users for all kinds of research. In order to allow precise searches corpus and database must be structured carefully and provided with an adequate interface.

corpus

The corpus comprises relevant legislation from the nine legal systems considered by the project. The texts are collected by legal experts of each system and classified according to the following categories: language, legal system, legal text type, title, abbreviation, etc. They are then semi-automatically divided into chapters, paragraphs and sections and stored in a database. Multilingual documents are aligned at sentence level.
The existing corpus component in bistro is adapted and serves as an interface to the LexALP corpus. Thanks to the detailed classification and structuring of the data a highly precise search function can thus be implemented.

termbank

Based on the technology developed for the Papillon project the LexALP termbank serves both the elaboration and display of terminology entries. A special interface allows terminologists and legal experts to elaborate the relevant Alpine Convention terminology online and directly save it to the term bank.
All terminology entries are freely accessible to external users. Precise filter criteria ensure immediate access to the desired term collections by means of the different levels of classification (language, legal field, legal system, etc.).
