Multilingual knowledge management
Know how to choose the right word. Avoid mistakes and wasting time and money. Achieve efficient communication.
These are just some of the results that can be obtained thanks to an efficient knowledge management strategy centred on the writing, revision and translation of texts. The key factors in all these activities are the precision and accuracy of the specialised terminology used.
The Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism at the European Academy of Bolzano has a long-standing experience in the fields of terminology and information technologies. We have compiled various dictionaries and created multilingual data bases and large electronic collections of texts (called corpora) in different subject fields and languages. The only terminological research centre in South Tyrol is now offering specialised consulting services as well as education and training courses in the following areas:
TRANSLATION Transferring the meaning, spirit and style of a text into a different language with an eye to respecting the natural differences between languages and cultures.
- specialised communication
- documentation
- language consulting
- optimisation and rationalisation of translation processes
- specialised translation
- translation theory
TERMINOLOGY Knowing how to choose the right technical word. Creating a clear and unambiguous company terminology and specialised terminology .Translating even the most difficult specialised texts easily.
CORPORA and LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGIES Creating and using large, subject-specific collection of electronic texts (called 'specialised corpora'). Finding the right technology to support and speed-up translation and terminology work.
- consulting and testing of language tools
- introduction to the use and creation of corpora
- creation of 'tailor-made' text corpora
- feasibility studies: automating specific linguistic tasks and processes
- use of corpora in terminology
- use of computer aided translation systems (CAT)
Our main working languages are Italian, German and English.
