Since 1993 the respect for and the protection of minorities is one of the political accession criteria of the European Union. The EU Charter of fundamental rights invokes the respect for cultural, linguistic and linguistic diversity. Especially the last decade brought questions of anti-discrimination, immigration, integration and intercultural understanding to the very forefront of EU-politics. The issue of "diversity management" has became an issue of European interest.

Nevertheless many questions remain open. Which sort of diversity is the EU to respect? The one within its member states or also the diversity within these states? Which means should the Union have at its disposal in order to fulfil this task? Is there already something like a European diversity management? What role do the national identities play? How about the European fundamental rights? These and other questions stand at the core of this research focus. Below listed information permits some in the academic building site.
