Overview
The mission of the Institute for Renewable Energy consists of innovative and interdisciplinary research and development in cooperation with local and international partners in order to promote technologies making use of renewable energy as well as efficient energy management.
The institute supports industry customers in the launch of innovative technologies so that they can establish a competitive edge in the market. The profit and satisfaction of its customers are a measure of the institute's success.
Research activities are chosen according to market demands. The institute collaborates closely with leading European research institutes. Major priority is given to the ensuring of independence, neutrality and accuracy.

Running projects:
- Annex 34 - Thermally Driven Heat Pumps for Heating and Cooling
In order to reudce the energy consumption in the building sector, conventional heat pumps are already market available since several years.
- Monitoring of a refurbished historical building in Bolzano, South Tyrol
EURAC monitors a building listed by the office for historical protection in Bolzano which was recently refurbished specifically in order to reduce energy consumption for space heating from 450 kWh/m"a to 30 kWh/m"a.
- Promotion of Renewable Energy as an alternative and sustainable Energy System: Partnership and Training Programme approach for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) in KHULNA Division
The aim of the project is to introduce an alternative and pratice-oriented form of energy supply for SME's and private households in KHULNA division, Bangladesh.
- Solar combi+
European project with eleven partners in the field of standardization of small scale combined solar heating & cooling applications.
- EuracMonitoring
The aims of the project are to gain a thorough understanding of a solar air conditioning system in combination with a cogeneration unit and to optimize the energy system of the EURAC.
- IEA SHC Task 38
4 Years project within the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling program on solar cooling and refrigeration. EURAC is responsible for the subtask on large scale systems.
- CoPES - Centre of Photovoltaic Energy Systems
Cooperation project with eight regional companies with the target to found a Centre of Competence in the field of PV. EURAC is leading the cooperation.
- Monitoring of a multiple family house in South Tyrol
EURAC accomplishes a 2 years monitoring campaign of Italy's first multiple family passive house built by the Institute for social dwelling in Bolzano (IPES). Main goal of the monitoring is the evaluation of the energy consumption of the building and of the obtained living comfort.
- Photovoltaic Training Centre in Bangladesh
European development project in cooperation with KHULNA division. The general objective is to introduce renewable energy for power generation to overcome regular shortages in power supply.
- Solar Cooling for Small Scale Applications - Soleb
Cooperation project with the Solar Thermal Company Ebner for monitoring and simulation of a small scale combined solar heating and cooling system.
- Monitoring of a Solar Cooling System for Large Scale Applications - Eurac
In-house project for simulation and optimization of the installed solar assisted heating and cooling energy system including combined heat and power.
Completed projects:
- Monitoring Project of Tione's High School
Educational project in cooperation with the school and the students including the monitoring of the installed energy system and data elaboration. The main goal is to promote an intelligent use of energy.
- Broschure on energetical renovation of existing and historic buildings
Elaboration of a guideline for the ernergetic renovation of existing buildings in cooperation with the Regional Office for Energy Efficiency.
- Low Energy - Database on Energy in buildings
Elaboration of a database in coopeartion with the University of Rome and Padua on behalf of CNA/SHV of Bolzano as an information base for energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy in buildings.
- READY
European project in cooperation with several mining regions and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. Within the project a PV demonstration object has been realised by EURAC.
- RENERTEC
Establishment of a Regional Centre for Renewable Energy with the target to enhance the regional and business development within this field.
- Heating large historic buildings
In-house project for the elaboration of energy systems respecting requirements of comfort , preservation of historic buildings and costs.
- SiTaR OSTAN-PV
Elaboration of an online simulation tool in cooperation with Pinkafeld University.
