SHORT DESCRIPTION

Alpine municipalities are currently under scrutiny. Are the Alpine municipalities developing in a sustainable manner? How does one measure sustainable development? Are there municipalities within the Alpine arc that, in spite of the distance between them, have reached a similar level of development or have similar prospects for the future? These are the questions that DIAMONT project module WP8 set out to investigate. For this task, WP8 gathered economic, social and environmental indicators that could map regional development, and then linked them together. In addition, the project examined individual perceptions of sustainability among local decision-makers. Individual attitudes, or ‘perceived sustainability’, can eventually tip the balance towards setting or not setting initiatives that encourage sustainable development.
