Fabio Marroni got his degree in Biology from University of Pisa in 1999 with a thesis on the photomovements of ciliated protozoans. He obtained a PhD in ˝Experimental and Molecular Oncology˝, working on the genetic epidemiology of breast/ovarian cancer. In that period, he also had an interest in the genetic epidemiology of colorectal cancer. He also worked on the population genetics of HLA antigens as a tool for a rational bone marrow donors recruitment strategy, in forensic genetics, and in animal genetics. Under the supervision of Joan Bailey-Wilson (Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, U.S.A.) he improved his skills in linkage analysis, and under the supervision of Giovanni Parmigiani he worked on mutation predicting models (BayesMendel). Since 2005 he is at EURAC, working on the genetics of population isolates, linkage mapping and association mapping.
