Judith Knapp, Zur Theorie und Numerik von Blow-up-Effekten bei einer speziellen Klasse von nichtlinearen parabolischen Gleichungen, Diplomarbeit, Technische Universität Graz - Institut für Mathematik,1998.
Blow-up-effects in nonlinear parabolic initial-boundary value problems of the form u(t) = Δu + Q(u) have been investigated. First by reviewing the literature theorems about existence, uniqueness, boundedness and explosion time of the solution have been collected. Then three different numerical methods for calculating the solution of the equation have been compared, namely (1) multi-grid iteration (with waveform relaxation for the smoothing part), (2) the method of Runge-Kutta and (3) the method of Crank-Nicolson combined with multi-grid iteration.
The third method was the core part of the evaluation. Due to this combination the instationary problem reduces to a sequence of stationary problems for which the Picard iteration has been used for the smoothing part. Unlike classical smoothing methods (like the Gauß-Seidel-Newton method or the Jakobi method) the Picard iteration has very good smoothing effects and very good convergence properties for these equations. The algorithms have been implemented and tested in Matlab.

PhD thesis
Judith Knapp, A New Approach to CALL Content Authoring, Doktorat, Universität Hannover - Institut für Informationssysteme,2004.
In the context of ELDIT I have developed and implemented a new approach to Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), focusing on providing linguists with new tools to author an innovative dictionary-based language learning system. The innovative way of content presentation in the ELDIT dictionary made it necessary to model the data down to the level of single words and word parts. The authring tools I developed help linguists in their extensive data collection and encoding process by rewriting and fully structuring originally semi-structured content. In addition the content is enriched with information by using computational linguistic techniques. The new approach not only proved its efficiency but also showed additional advantages which allowed increasing considerably the innovativeness of the ELDIT system.
