Stefan Schneiderbauer is a senior researcher of the Institute for Applied Remote Sensing specialised in the analysis of satellite images and additional spatial data within the scope of environmental and security-related studies.
He graduated at the Institute for Geography of the Cologne University (Germany) in 1993 and obtained his PhD from the department for geosciences of the Free University Berlin (Germany) in 2007. His dissertation addressed the estimation of populations' risks and vulnerabilities to natural hazards at various scales.
After two years (1994 / 1995) as research employee of the University for Applied Science in Berlin, Stefan Schneiderbauer worked for 7 years as freelancing trainer, facilitator and consultant with a scientific focus on the usability of modern technologies for natural resource management.
From 2003 to 2006 he was employed by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy) studying the potential of remote sensing data and GIS techniques in order to generate information of relevance for decision making at European level.
Stefan Schneiderbauer has extensive work experience abroad, in particular in Saharan and Sub-Saharan Africa.
