Junior Earth Observation Scientist

The Earth Observation Institute of Eurac Research provides various satellite-derived environmental information on mountain ecosystems to understand pressures of land use and climate. We are looking for a junior researcher to contribute to our research activities in the field of vegetation and land cover monitoring. Specifically, the junior researcher should implement workflows for ecosystem monitoring to support current project activities. 

 

Tasks:

  • Implementing EO-based workflows (classification and change detection methodologies)
  • Sensitivity analysis of products with regard to methodologies 
  • Validation of final products
  • Reporting and documentation 

 

Requirements:

  • Graduated student in Geoinformatics, Geosciences or similar with a strong background in Earth Observation
  • Profound understanding of remote sensing data (optical including hyperspectral and radar)
  • Good knowledge of a common scripting language (R, Python, IDL) and Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Very good English (oral and written)
  • Research experience in interdisciplinary working environments is an advantage
  • Team working, motivation to learn and personal initiative
  • Knowledge of an additional language (German, Italian) is an advantage
