PhD student in Migration and Political Parties

The University of Vienna (https://inex.univie.ac.at/) in cooperation with Eurac Research invites applications for a PhD position in Political Science, for a period of 3 years. The doctoral student will be based at Eurac Research (Bozen/Bolzano – Italy) and is enrolled at the University of Vienna and participates in the doctoral programme there.

The PhD Candidate focusses on the nexus between political parties, political discourse and immigration policies. S/he generates expertise on the interplay between the politics of immigration and diversity, and the politics of inclusion or exclusion of diversity at regional and/or local level. S/he develops a research design which concentrates on the regional and/or local level, and is comparative, by either comparing a variety of political parties in Europe or by comparing parties operating at different governmental levels in at least two European states.

The successful applicant will be supervised by Prof. Sieglinde Rosenberger (University of Vienna) and co-supervised by Dr. Verena Wisthaler (Eurac Research).


  • pursuing a PhD in the field of "Migration and Political Parties"
  • Presenting research results in national- and international-level academic conferences.


  • an excellent Master Degree in Political Science
  • previous engagement with political parties, political communication or migration scholarship is an asset
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills; Italian and German skills or willingness to learn at least one of the two languages are desired.
  • Ability to work both autonomously, and in a team.
