Eurac Research is looking for a

PhD student in soil ecology
 
Landscape and Environment in the Alps is largely shaped by mountain agriculture. Macro-invertebrates inhabiting the soil environment are major drivers of ecosystem functioning due to the many ecosystem processes they contribute to. In the present project we seek to asses land-use effects (management practices, application of manure) on soil-macroinvertebrates and evaluate implications for ecosystem service provision.
 
Tasks:
· conducting field work autonomously
· identifying soil macro-invertebrates to family/species level, detailed taxonomic knowledge on one major group of soil animals advantageous
· statistically analysing community data
· writing papers for peer-reviewed international journals 
 
Requirements:
· Master degree in ecology, environmental science or similar, specialization in soil zoology/ecology desired, but not essential
· Interest in and the ability to carry out fieldwork in mountain study sites
· Experience in scientific data analysis using multivariate statistical methods
· Ability to write peer reviewed publications
· Ability to work autonomously and in a team
· Excellent written and spoken English skills; Italian and German skills are desired.
