Researcher for the study on building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) in historical buildings and landscapes (M/F)

EURAC is looking for a collaborator for investigating BIPV systems and technologies applicable to historical buildings and landscapes. The candidate will work in the Interreg Italy – Switzerland Project "BiPV meets History" (CUP D56C18000610007) that aims at creating new business perspectives for the BIPV industry in heritage contexts. The candidate will gather exemplary buildings and products from the industry, to define criteria and guidance tools to promote the diffusion of BIPV systems. This repository will form the base for the development of a digital platform. Furthermore, the candidate will organize technical events among the stakeholders involved in the project (Universities, Research Institutes, Public Authorities, Heritage Authorities, Buildings and Energy Companies, and so on). The candidate will be part of EURAC's research group on "Energy retrofit of historic buildings" and will collaborate with the group "Photovoltaic systems".


Methods and techniques used:

  • Literature review (legislative, normative, and procedural context)
  • Collection of case studies and BIPV products
  • Use of BIPV simulation tools, building energy software
  • Energy, economical and environmental assessment of BIPV systems
  • Participation at working tables with the stakeholders of the project
  • Interviews and surveys with the stakeholders of the project


  • Research on BIPV technologies, companies and case studies to further develop an existing platform
  • Development of criteria, guidelines and guidance tools on BIPV integration in heritage contexts
  • Involvement of users to increase the awareness and eliminate barriers for the diffusion of BIPV technologies
  • Participation in EU Research, knowing its process and structures
  • Developing of publication records in recognized international journals and conferences



  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering
  • Good knowledge of Italian and English language
  • Analytical, quantitative and interpretive knowledge and skills in the field of built environment, energy, and preservation of cultural heritage, particularly on:
    • energy dynamic simulation
    • optimization strategies
    • renewable energy sources (RES)
    • conservation principles
  • Ability to work effectively as responsible professionals independently and in teams handling increasingly complex professional expectations
