Researcher within the field of Risk Governance

Eurac Research is an interdisciplinary research centre located in Bolzano, Italy. One research focus lies on risk and resilience studies in the context of natural hazards. Within the framework of the Alpine project "RiKoST-Risk communication strategies", we are looking for a researcher who supports our work on the improvement of risk communication strategies and the development of adaptive risk communication tools. Our work directly contributes to the reduction of potential negative impacts of natural hazard events and helps to increase the preparedness and the resilience of local populations. All activities will be carried out in close collaboration with the Agency for Civil Protection of Bolzano-South Tyrol and the Regional government of Carinthia.

 

Tasks:

  • Support of ongoing research projects within the context of resilience and risk governance
  • Elaborate recommendations for public authorities based on project results
  • Planning, organization and implementation of participatory events in 8 pilot municipalities in South Tyrol
  • Generation of project reports and support of administrative tasks
  • Support the analysis of survey data
  • Preparation of scientific publications and presentation of results at conferences

 

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Geography, Spatial Planning, Landscape Planning, Environmental Science or similar, preferable with a multi-disciplinary background
  • Basic understanding of inter-and transdisciplinary research
  • Basic understanding of social aspects in the context of natural hazards and disaster risk reduction
  • Experience in the use of interviews and questionnaires as research methods for data collection
  • Basic understanding of natural and social science approaches applied for data collection and analysis
  • Written and oral command of one of the two main languages spoken in South Tyrol: German and Italian
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Team working, good communication with stakeholders and other international partners

Desired

  • Work experience in the European Alps
  • Experience in scientific data analysis using SPSS
  • Work experience related to risk communication, risk management or resilience
  • Written and oral command of both main languages spoken in South Tyrol: German and Italian
  • Experience in planning and implementing participatory events, such as workshops and focus group interviews
