These are the masks, visors and all the protective equipment that the Chinese institution of Hebei’s Academy of Social Sciences has donated to Eurac Research. The management of the South Tyrolean research centre has arranged for all the material that has arrived in Bolzano today - 8000 masks, 300 protective goggles, 350 visors and 50 protective suits - to be delivered directly to the Civil Protection warehouse and to be made available to the South Tyrolean Health Authority for distribution throughout the province.
"We have been in contact with the University of Hebei in northern China since a number of Chinese researchers attended our world congress on agritourism last year. Since then we have been in constant contact," explains Eleonora Psenner from Eurac Research. "With the pandemic our relations have become even closer, we have been in regular contact and have been constantly updating our Chinese colleagues about the situation in our region. From this relationship came their initiative to collect and send this protective material to Bolzano".
"This story is an excellent example of how our research network goes beyond the pure activity of study and cooperation in projects. Our partners in Hebei have also put us in touch with other manufacturers who we can turn to for additional protective material in the future," says Stephan Ortner, Director of Eurac Research.
