Tourism

Global upheavals, the increasing migration and mobility as well as a digitally oriented, older society challenge the tourism industry from an offer and market perspective. On one hand, the products and services within the touristic oversupply are becoming interchangeable and experiences are simulated through virtual reality. On the other hand, the increasing demand of emotional, personal experiences, intrinsic values as well as the desire of regard and personal relationships within the context of sustainability and resilience are changing the tourism “as we know it”. What will be the role of tourism in the future within the global contexts and what does this mean for tourism as a regional development strategy?
