since 2001
EURAC, in close cooperation with the local health services, has invested in
medical research. The main focuses are in the areas of neuromedicine, cardiovascular diseases, mountain emergency medicine, and paleopathology. Having an influence on these research focuses are methodological aspects from the fields of biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology. Connecting various disciplines with molecular research methods, researchers are attempting to unify medicine, biology, and technology under one roof.
All of the research goals are derived from local needs or local conditions, such as studies in hypothermia that can improve the survival rates of patients injured in the mountains or findings from research on Ötzi the Iceman that open the door to the study of ancient diseases.
