Institute for Alpine Environment
Problem-oriented research between the conflicting priorities of ecology-economy: under this motto the Institute for Alpine Environment of EURAC was founded in 1995. Located within the heart of the Alps, EURAC offers ideal conditions for a user-oriented research in mountain areas. In a range of international, national and regional projects and cooperations a multi-disciplinary team of young scientists investigates the following main fields of research by experimental field research, computer simulations as well as participative trans-disciplinary approaches:
- Ecosystem research and landscape ecology of mountain environments with a special focus on global change
- Biogeochemical cycles
- Functional biodiversity
- Ecosystem services
- Sustainable development
Our research results are regularly published in international scientific journals, presented at conferences and put into practice. Our know-how is thus directly introduced into planning processes, like e.g. the local Agenda 21, but also into education, in order to arouse interest and pleasure for science and research especially in children and young people.
