[ Learner Corpus Infrastructure ]

[ Abstract ]

Learner corpora build a fundamental basis for a noticeable part of the research activities of the Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism. The Learner Corpus Infrastructure project (LCI)  aims at enhancing the research potential of the institute by creating an always more efficient infrastructure for the collection, processing and maintenance of learner corpora.

[ Project Description ]

The collection, processing and maintenance of learner copora is a prerequisite for their scientific analysis and thus an integral aspect of the Institute’s daily work. This particularly also includes the delivery of resources and related research outputs to external research partners and to the public.

In response to the detected need for elaborating project-independent procedures and infrastructures, the informal non-founded meta-project on learner corpora research (the LC project) has been created at the Institute’s level in 2012. By investing in the development of project-independent procedures, this meta-project improved efficiency by fostering applicability, visibility and sustainability, i.e. it enhanced the Institute’s research capacity on the subject as a whole.

The LCI project continues the work of the LC project and aims at extending the promising prototypical infrastructure it created into a fully operational and efficient infrastructure that enables the Institute to further enhance its research achievements on learner corpora. In its objectives, the LCI project thus follows the path drawn by  LC project with extended means while aiming for greater achievements and outputs.
