Da allora il Consiglio d'Europa ha deciso di dichiarare il 26 settembre "Giornata Europea delle Lingue". http://www.eurac.edu/Focus/language_day_introduzione_it.htm  L'Europa poliglottaL'Europa moderna parla ben 225 lingue, la maggioranza di queste sono lingue minoritarie, non ufficiali. Dall'allargamento del 2004, l'unione Europea sta funzionando con ben 20 lingue a cui nel 2007 si aggiungerà anche l'irlandese.
