Maurizio F. Facheris got his Medical degree at the University of Brescia in 2000. He specialized in Neurology at the University of Milano-Biccoca in 2005. The focus of his final dissertation was the role of lipid peroxidation on neurodegenerative disorders. Upon becoming a Resident in Neurology, Dr. Facheris attended a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, MN (USA), focusing in neuroepidemiology and in genetics of movement disorders, and completed a Master in Clinical Research at the Mayo Graduate School, specializing in study design, genetics and epidemiology. He joined the Institute of Genetic Medicine at EURAC in July 2007, dedicating his time to neurology-related research (mainly movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease) and to broad epidemiological projects based in South Tyrol. He is the co-PI of the CHRIS Study (Cooperative Health Research in South Tyrol). He also works two days per week at the Central Hospital of Bolzano, at the movement disorders clinic, linking clinics to scientific aspects.
