- Active solar systems and buildings
Wolfram Sparber is Head of the Institute for Renewable Energy at EURAC research since its foundation in 2005. He is responsible for the startup and the stepwise development and growth of the Institute. The Institute included 2013 four research groups and around 50 collaborators. The Institutes activities are focused in the field of application of solar energy systems and energy efficiency measures within buildings, industries and cities.

In these fields Wolfram Sparber is involved in many international activities and member of several committees and councils. Since 2011 he is Vice President of the board of the European Technology Platform Renewable Heating and Cooling; since 2013 he is coordinating the Italian Delegation within the Alpine Energy Platform.

Since November 2011 Wolfram Sparber is President of the board of SEL AG, the holding company of SEL Group. SEL Group is a regional energy utility being active in the field of energy production, distribution, trading and services. The field of activities include electrical energy, thermal energy and natural gas, whereby the energy production is mainly based on renewable sources. In 2012 SEL Group consisted of 30 companies, included 430 collaborators, had revenues of 567 million € and a net income of over 55 million €.

In the recent years Wolfram Sparber contributed to the elaboration of several strategic research and technology development documents and was invited as Visiting Professor to different Universities.

In 2004 Wolfram Sparber joined TIS innovation park of Bolzano (Italy) for the establishment, development and growth of a regional centre for renewable energies (RENERTEC). The centre became a Business Area of TIS in the following years, a strong collaboration is still going on.

Wolfram Sparber studied Applied Physics at Graz University of Technology (Austria) and Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain). He concluded his studies at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Freiburg (Germany).
