Bird species that are tied to meadows, pastures and other open agricultural areas are among the most threatened species in South Tyrol. In order to be able to protect them effectively, it is necessary to know their distribution in detail, to observe the development of populations over time – if possible with standardized methods – and to implement targeted protection measures.

In order to achieve these goals, a cooperation between the Office for Nature of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, EURAC Research and other experts was launched in 2020, thanks to which a large amount of distribution data has already been collected. In 2021, in collaboration with passionate birdwatchers from all over the province, a complementary Citizen Science project was carried out to monitor species in open and semi-open areas.

We invite you to participate in the second edition of this Citizen Science project. Interested parties are asked to contact Matteo.Anderle@eurac.edu and are invited to an informational afternoon on Friday, April 29 at 4:30 p.m. (location to be announced), where results to date will be briefly presented, survey methods described, and questions from interested parties answered.

For more information, please see the enclosed brochure or learn more by contacting us. We look forward to seeing you at the information afternoon!
