Visiting Researcher at the UC Santa Barbara
During February 2019, Ingrid Kofler was a visiting researcher at the 21st Century Global Dynamics Initiative, University of California, Santa Barbara. The GDI examines the specific features of 21st century globalization, which is proving to be remarkably different from earlier eras, different even from globalization in the late 20th century. It is an interdisciplinary initiative ranging from topics such as love and intimacy in the Middle East; human rights and governance in Latin America; the rise of societies and economies outside the West; and creative labor issues in the age of global media conglomerates. While with the 21st Century Global Dynamics initiative, she held a lecture with the title “Global Competition for Talent and Regional & Global Disparities” at the Global Studies Colloquium Series, organized by Professor Jan Nederveen Pieterse. The Mellichamp Research initiative cluster “21st Century Global Dynamics” analyzes the specific features of contemporary globalization, emphasizing the social forces, fields, and trajectories that are shaping our world today.
