Marco Cantonati​

President of the jury

Dr. Marco Cantonati is a freshwater ecologist and environmental botanist specialized in benthic microalgae with particular attention to diatoms. His main research interests include: ecohydrogeology, long-term ecological research, effects of climate and environmental change, paleolimnology. He is Section Head (Limnology) at the MUSE – Museo delle Scienze. He is also an Associate Researcher at ANSP PCER Drexel University (PA, USA). He has been coordinator / work package coordinator of 28 projects, tenders, consultancies. He has published 100 articles in ISI international journals with IF. He is / has been Associate Editor / EBM of 4 international journals (Wetlands, Water, Phycologia, Journal of Limnology), ad hoc reviewer for 77 journals, Guest Editor of 8 special volumes (Freshwater Science, STOTEN, ECOLIND). He discovered and described genera and species of algae and cyanobacteria new to science and has been the lead editor of one of the most widely used diatom identification texts internationally. He holds a Central European Habilitation (venia docendi) in Limnology (University of Innsbruck), Habilitations (ASN) in Italy (Ecology and Botany), and has been Contract Professor of 'Biology of Photoautotrophic Organisms' (University of Trento).

 
 

Christoph Wehrli​

Education: 1973 – 1978 Diploma studies in physics at ETH Zürich; 2005 – 2008 PhD in environmental sciences, ETH Zürich. 

Professional Activities: 1978 – 1988 research assistant at Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos; 1989 – 2014 senior scientist at PMOD/WRC; 2015 retired

Fields of work: Solar spectral irradiance and its variability from space, remote sensing of the atmosphere, optical calibrations, global measurement network, development of onboard and ground based system software.

Space experiments (Co-Investigator): IPHIR experiment on PHOBOS (launched Jul. 1988); SOVA on EURECA (Aug. 1992); VIRGO on SoHO (Dec. 1995); SOVIM on SSI (Feb. 2008); LYRA on PROBA2 (Nov. 2009); PREMOS on PICARD (Feb. 2010)

International commissions: 1990 – 1997 Solar Electromagnetic Radiation Study for Solar Cycle 22 of SCOSTEP/ICSU; Co-Leader of WG1 on total and spectral irradiance; 2003 – 2014 Scientific Advisory Group on Aerosols for the GAW program of WMO, Chairman sub-group AOD from 2006 to 2012.

Claudio Rhyner​

Claudio holds a master of science in Chemistry from the University of Bern and a PhD in Molecular Biology from University of Zurich. He currently leads part time the vaccine development research group at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland. Most of his work time Claudio is CEO of DavosBiosciences, a company dedicated in Biobanking and providing services for the pharmaceutical industries. His main research interests are in the identification, cloning, expression, and engineering of biological molecules, comprising proteins, lipids, and carbohydrate moieties. He is also involved in the development of a novel technology to measure molecular interactions for rapid quantification of biomarkers. He is member of the Life Science Graduate School Zurich, jointly run by ETH and University of Zurich and in the organizing committee of the World Immune Regulation Meeting (WIRM). He is President of the Kirchner Förderverein and in the board of the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Foundation, supporting the museum for the famous German expressionist.​

Christian Steurer​

He graduated at the Politecnico of Milan in 1997 as telecommunication engineer. During the study he worked as teacher of physics, mathematics, informatics and electrical plants. From 1997 until 2002 he was working in the private industry for a regional telecommunication company as head of department. From 2002 until 2012 he was working at Eurac Research in the Information and Communication Technology and also as head of the service department Technology Development, with major expertise on IT-security, networking and IT-infrastructure. 2012 – 2017 he was chief of the IT-department CIO of the public health authority of South Tyrol. Since January 2018 he is Head of the terraXcube. He is specialized in developing IT and communication systems including radio communication and the respective infrastructure. He has profound knowledge in remote sensing techniques and image processing.

Josef Dalla Via​

He is responsible for the development of the Research and Innovation Information System ‘Aristoteles’ in South Tyrol, for the creation of a territorial information concept and its implementation in the context of a database and a portal to be created. Scientific projects and their results, products and publications should be brought closer to the public and the specific expertise made accessible. He obtained his PhD in Biology (Zoology and Ecology) at the Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck in 1986.

​1986-1995 Assistant Professor at the Department of Zoology and Limnology, University of Innsbruck, Austria; 1987-2002 Lecturer under contract at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Innsbruck, Austria (Lectures in general and comparative physiology, marine biology and aquaculture); 1999-2008 Head of the Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Laimburg, Italy; 2001-2014 Lecturer under contract at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano, Italy (Lectures in anatomy, morphology and physiology of livestock, and general zoology). 

He was member of several administrative and scientific councils.
He has extensive research experience in projects as collaborator or project leader in the field of animal physiology, ecology and agriculture, and undertook several research periods abroad and in international cooperations.

Emanuele Eccel​

​Born in Trento in 1964, in 1990 he got a Master Degree cum laude in Environmental Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. 

At the Fondazione Mach – Istituto Agrario di S. Michele all’Adige since 1995, he strengthened his knowledge of the atmospheric sciences and of agro-meteorology, also attending to several specific courses and seminars, particularly on weather forecasting. For eleven years since 1997 (starting of the meteorological service for Trentino) he worked as a weather forecaster for the local meteorological service (Meteotrentino). Eventually he focused his scientific interest on local climatology and the interaction between climate and plants, especially crop phenology. He was for five years at the head of the Technological Platform “Dynamics of Agro-ecosystems”. Lately he engaged in science communication topics, joining since 2016 the Communication and Public Relationships team of the Research & Innovation Centre.
