Ljiljana answers EUreka!'s questions

Q: How does the EU influence your day-to-day life?

A: To me the EU represents one of those big buildings, where I as a regular person cannot enter. But how it influences me I do not really know. I follow the politics, especially for Sweden and Serbia but how it all fits together I do not really know.

Q: When you think about the EU, what is the first picture that comes to your mind?

A: West. The first image that I get in my mind is that it is the West, and that it is just some countries that are there. When Sweden was about to enter the EU, the thought was “wow, this is a great thing”. But today I do not see it entirely as positive. Because I do not feel like Sweden has the same right to decide for themselves anymore, they have to take into account what others want and by doing so they risk of losing themselves a bit. It is difficult to say if it is more pros than cons.

Q: End the sentence: “Twenty years from now the EU … “

A: ...I hope that the EU has become more about solidarity and that it is available for all. I do not think it should be only for some, so in twenty years from now the EU is bigger and that they have accepted more countries.

Q: Choose three adjectives for the EU!

A: Egoistic, cold, self-centered.

Q: Explain the EU to an 8-year-old child in one sentence.

A: It is a lot of countries cooperating, the EU represents a family.

Q: If the EU was an animal, what would it be and why?

A: A snake. Because they are a bit cunning with some thought behind everything. You cannot trust them completely.

Q: Is there a dish (in your country) that describes Europe best, and why?

A: Meatballs and mushed potatoes, where the meatballs represent the member states.
