What is EUreka?

A blog on various EU-related topics In May 2019 elections to the European Parliament were held. However, for most European citizens, these electoral moments are very confusing and unclear. This applies not only to the practical functioning of these elections, but also to the repercussions of the election result on our daily lives. Indeed, at a time of great distrust of representative democracy and pervasive anti-Europeanism in politics and society in general, European elections are at risk of populism and disinterest.

The low turnout at the European elections in 2014 (42%) is just one of the symptoms of the crisis that the European Union was experiencing then and that is still more than current. The European Union is in difficulty. Everyone knows expressions like "financial crisis" or "Brexit", but less the true meaning of these concepts.

This is why a clear and comprehensive debate is needed on what is happening in the EU at the moment.

Launched in April 2019, this blog aims to shed light on some of the most relevant issues for the future of the European Union - understood as a whole but also as the sum of 28 (now 27) different countries, contributing to the construction of a conscious and informed public opinion. Given the motto of the EU, "United in diversity", and the idea of the EU as a supranational entity made of different cultures, traditions and languages, EUreka! tries to bring out stories and interdisciplinary aspects otherwise neglected in the general discussion about the European Union and Europe in general.
