EURAC Research is supporting ALPERIA and an external consultant in conducting a climate risk analysis for ALPERIA and their main assets and business fields in line with the EU Taxonomy. The role of EURAC is    To analyse climate observations and climate scenarios with a focus on climate trends (e.g. raising temperatures) and extremes (e.g. extreme heat, heavy rain).    To support the climate risk assessment with EURAC’s own risk assessment framework.This project helps us to test our achievements in the field of climate services and risk assessment.  Contact person: Alice Crespi (alice.crespi@eurac.edu)

EURAC Research will work on two tasks:1) Evaluation of climate data and climate scenarios for South Tyrol, in particular parameters relevant for climate risk analysis (e.g. temperature) and extreme events (e.g. extreme heat, heavy rainfall). In particular, it includes: - Analysis of climate data on the historical and current situation in South Tyrol - Analysis of extreme events that had a damaging impact. For this purpose, known past damaging events are considered and investigated in cooperation with ALPERIA. This analysis can support the identification of suitable climate indices and provide information on the necessary spatial and temporal resolution of climate data (e.g. for heavy rainfall: hours, for drought: months).  - Processing of the climate scenarios of model ensembles until 2050 (incl. intermediate steps for 2030 and 2040) for different emission scenarios based on the available climate projections (e.g. EURO-CORDEX, CMIP6). - Downscaling through statistical procedures to a scale suitable for climate risk analysis (e.g. km scale).  - Assessment of relevant extreme events in future climate by considering different methods.   - Rough analysis of climate change signals in other Italian regions where ALPERIA infrastructure sites are located.   2) General support for climate risk analysis, including:  - Methodological support for analysis (EURAC Research has developed methods for climate risk analysis that have been incorporated into the ISO 14090 standard "Adaptation to the consequences of climate change") - Provision of knowledge generated by EURAC Research projects on climate impacts and climate adaptation - Participation in workshops
