The aim of the project is to implement artificial intelligence methods to increase the quality (consistency) of environmental data collected by low-cost sensors. Low-cost sensors have a high potential for application in many fields where measurement capabilities are limited or absent. However, such solutions are strongly influenced by contextual conditions and require frequent laboratory calibrations that limit their applicability for continuous and long-term monitoring.
The project aims at implementing an innovative self-calibration function on the microcontroller platform developed by the South Tyrolean company ORMA Solutions, in order to obtain an autonomous sensor-node with increased robustness and reliability and suitable for multiple distributed sensing applications. This will boost the adoption and sustainable use of low-cost sensor-based monitoring solutions in scientific, civil and industrial applications.
