**The Centralparks project promotes initiatives and legal framework in the Carpathian region to mitigate the loss of biodiversity and to increase responsible resource management by strengthening protected areas and fostering protected area networks along this vulnerable mountain system.**

Nel 2019 Eurac Research ha avviato, per conto della Provincia autonoma di Bolzano, un progetto di monitoraggio della biodiversità su scala provinciale. Si tratta di un progetto unico in Italia per estensione e diversità di habitat e specie osservate. Ma cosa vuol dire, nella pratica, monitorare la biodiversità di un territorio?

Come funziona un monitoraggio della biodiversità?

Every year, on 21 March, the world celebrates International Forest Day. 2022’s edition is dedicated to 'Forests and sustainable production and consumption'. We all know that trees provide oxygen, resources and sustain ecosystems but did you know that wood products can replace less sustainable fossil-based ones and by doing so, also reduce the presence of C02 in our atmosphere? However, to do this , the wood must come from well-planned and sustainably managed forests. Forests are one of humanity’s most valuable resources, find out more about them here.

Fragili e al tempo stesso decisamente preziosi per l’uomo, i boschi sono ecosistemi sempre più soggetti ai rischi legati ai cambiamenti climatici: parassiti, siccità ed eventi estremi più frequenti e più intensi. Modelli matematici simulano in anticipo questi scenari futuri. Aiutano così a capire come le foreste si comporteranno a fronte di cambiamenti previsti – come l’innalzamento delle temperature – e a rendere  le amministrazioni più pronte a reagire in caso di eventi inaspettati.
