The main cause of climate change comes from the human-made emissions of greenhouse gases. These emissions are increasing the concentration of these gases in the atmosphere. And as a result of these emissions, there are now more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than ther have been at any time in the last 800,000 years. Since the beginning of industrialization, the concentration has increased by about 40%. The rate and intensity of climate change depends primarily on the development of greenhouse gas emissions. The largest contributor to the rise in temperature (almost 80%) is the release of carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the combustion of fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) and industrial processes.
