There are many interactions between land use and climate change. Depending on how land is used or managed, greenhouse gas emissions can be generated or sequestered from the system, such as forests sequestering CO2. Therefore, responsible and use can contribute to climate change mitigation. Conversely, climate change affects land use and, as such, land consumption and sealing should be reduced. Denser settlement can reduce energy consumption for heating and mobility, but should be balanced by greening inner city areas as well as spreading residential zones out where possible.
