The "INNOEnergie - Concepts for digital data processing to increase energy efficiency in agriculture project aims to increase energy efficiency in agriculture of South Tyrol. Today, informations on renewable energies, improved technologies and economic efficiency in the energy sector for small farms are not yet available in a bundled form. The project will, first of all, summarize those informations. Afterwards, measures and information material to increase energy efficiency on farms will be developed, to create the basis for a digital advisory tool that can be used by South Tyrolean farmers in a personalised manner. This automated consultancy tool should result in specific recommendations for each farm, which will have a positive effect on its economic efficiency through increased energy efficiency.

The goal of the project is to create a digital consultancy tool to increase the economic efficiency of the farm through their energy refurbishment.

First, an evaluation of various existing energy efficiency measures must be prepared; moreover, data on the actual energy consumption of have to be collected, based on the energy checks on around 20 farms; the project focuses on the three most common forms of farming in South Tyrol: fruit growing, viticulture and mountain farming.

Finally, energy experts from various institutions and companies are working together with farmers to develop a the digital advisory tool: the close exchange with the Styrian Chamber of Agriculture, SYNECO, the South Tyrolean Energy Association, the research institute EURAC and four selected farmers will bring together the necessary expert knowledge from research and practice.

The project is financed by the "European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development" (EAFRD). The INNOEnergy project is led by the Bauernbund department Innovation & Energy.

What we do

Our research addresses the greatest challenges facing us in the future: people need health, energy, well-functioning political and social systems and an intact environment. These are complex questions, and we are seeking the answers in the interaction between many different disciplines. In so doing, our research work embraces three major themes: regions fit for living in, diversity as a life-enhancing feature, a healthy society.
