Im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes ist geplant die gesamte Sammlung der ägyptischen Mumien (>100) des ägyptologischen Museums in Turin, Italien zu untersuchen. Im ersten Schritt werden dazu sämtliche Mumien radiologisch mit Hilfe eines mobilen CT Geräts untersucht. Die CT Daten werden für die anthropologische Untersuchung zur Bestimmung von Alter und Geschlecht der Mumien und des Erhaltungszustands verwendet. Darüber hinaus werden in Zusammenarbeit mit unseren Kooperationspartnern, der HORUS Gruppe, die Mumien auf das Vorhandensein von Arterienverkalkungen (Atherosklerose) untersucht. In einem weiteren Schritt, werden von allen Mumien, die einen Zugang zu Weichgeweben oder Knochen aufweisen, kleine Gewebeproben entnommen. Diese werden verwendet zur Analyse des Aktivitätswasser, zur Radiokarbondatierung und zur genetischen Analyse im Rahmen des Projekts "Mummy Atherosclerosis", in dem genetische Risikofaktoren für Herz- und Kreislaufkrankheiten bei den Mumien untersucht werden.
