Anniversary Autonomy Statute

50 years ago, South Tyrol’s Second Statute of Autonomy came into force and built the essential basis of today's autonomy. Eurac Research, together with the South Tyrolean Society for Political Science, takes this anniversary as an opportunity to sum up these 50 years and to take a look into the future. After all, South Tyrol's autonomy is internationally regarded as a very successful model of minority protection and the pacification of an ethnic conflict.
Throughout the anniversary year, a series of scientific events approach diverse aspects related to South Tyrolean autonomy and its recent developments from an interdisciplinary angle. Questions of minority protection and interethnic coexistence in South Tyrol are a topic as much as socio-political relations within the province and beyond, taking into consideration also the regional, the national and the international, European, level. The various conferences and webinars organized within the framework of the anniversary series moreover examine how South Tyrolean autonomy interplays with various social sub-sectors, ranging from the health system to the economy, the school system, and the judiciary. In 2023, an Autonomy Report (in German and Italian) will be published by the two research Institutes and the Center related to the topic of autonomy in South Tyrol.
