On this page, you will find a selection of historic buildings that have in recent years, with the support of Eurac Research, undergone renovation work to improve their energy efficiency. Our Institute is concerned with applied research: technologies and innovations developed with the collaboration of companies and other scientific partners are tested in real buildings. This applied research is carried out as part of European research projects.
The Cassa di Risparmio Foundation has carried out conservation work on disused historic buildings. This renovation work allows the buildings to be used once again for cultural activities. The work includes refurbishment to improve the insulation of part of the building envelope, replacement of windows, the installation of a ventilation system that enables the recovery of heat on two floors. This work was carried out as part of the European project 3ENCULT.
The Role of Eurac Research: Eurac Research coordinated 3ENCULT project. In this building, our researchers have provided support in relation to the installation of internal insulation in a test room, the development and installation of a prototype window, hypothermal and interior comfort monitoring, consultancy in relation to the planning of the restoration project, analysis and hypothermal simulation of construction and research expertise relating to mechanical and natural ventilation.

Villa Castelli, Bellano (LC) |
The private renovation and conservation of a historic villa on Lake Como. This project emerged from the customer's desire to carry out the radical restructuring of the Villa's envelope while preserving the building's architectural features and improving its energy performance.
The Role of Eurac Research: In this building, our researchers provided support in relation to thermo-hygrometric simulation to examine various solutions to the construction of the building envelope, analysis of the economic costs, thermo-hygrometric monitoring and analysis of interior comfort.
