Intersectionality in India: Moving Beyond Western Ideas
Intersectionality is a way to understand how different types of inequality – like racism, sexism, or classism – can overlap and make life more difficult for some people. The idea was initially developed to address minority rights and has become popular in academia and global organizations like the United Nations. But when this concept is used in different cultures without considering local differences, it doesn’t always work well. Even though intersectionality is helpful for showing how different forms of discrimination connect, it can miss important details if it’s applied the same way everywhere.
