In South Tyrol, career success is not only about education: family background still matters
According to a recent edition of the survey [Barometro IPL](https://www.afi-ipl.org/wp-content/uploads/2025-07-30-CS-Barometro-IPL-Estate-2025-Equita-distributiva.pdf), people in South Tyrol believe that “meritocratic” factors such as hard work and education matter more than family background or social connections in shaping success. However, a closer look at the data reveals that a person’s social origin remains a key determinant of their socioeconomic outcomes.
